- The product has physical buttons or a separate input method — the display shows status or output; input happens elsewhere
- The UI is read-only or controlled remotely — dashboards, status panels, and signage often don't need on-screen interaction at all
- Cost sensitivity outweighs interaction convenience — for high-volume products, skipping touch on every unit adds up
- Environmental sealing is a priority — a display-only panel is often simpler to seal against dust or moisture than an assembly with an exposed touch surface, though this depends heavily on your specific mechanical design

If you later decide you do need touch
Display-only doesn't permanently rule out touch — an external capacitive or resistive touch layer can be bonded afterward, either by your own assembly process or a third-party bonding vendor. That path gives you independent control over touch specification (multi-touch points, glove operation, stylus support) that an integrated module might not offer.
