A display quote is the beginning of a multi-stage process, not the end of it. This guide walks through the complete timeline from initial request to delivered production units, so you know what to expect and when at each stage.

Stage 1: RFQ and specification confirmation (1-3 days)

A complete RFQ includes size, resolution, interface, touch requirement, target brightness, and expected volume — see our complete selection guide for the full framework behind these decisions. A well-specified RFQ typically gets a same-day or next-day initial response; an underspecified one triggers several rounds of clarifying questions before a real quote can start.

Stage 2: Quote and Incoterm confirmation (same day to a few days)

Confirm which Incoterm the quote is based on (EXW, FOB, or DDP — see our sourcing from China guide for what each means), and whether the quoted lead time covers production only or production plus shipping.

Stage 3: Sample production and evaluation (days to weeks)

Stage 4: Production order and QC standards agreement (before production starts)

Before placing a production PO, establish the quality standards in writing: acceptable AQL level, what counts as a cosmetic versus functional defect, and whether a pre-shipment inspection report will be provided. Stage 5: Production run (weeks, varies by volume)

Production lead time scales with volume and current factory load, and is typically longer for first-run custom tooling than for an established standard size. Ask for the actual current lead time rather than relying on a general estimate, since factory capacity varies over time.

Stage 6: Pre-shipment inspection

A pre-shipment inspection against the agreed AQL standard should happen before the batch leaves the factory, ideally with a report and photos you can review. This is your last checkpoint before the goods are in transit and harder to address.
